Shymbulak (Chimbulak) is Central Asia’s flagship resort above Almaty: base ~2,260 m, top ~3,180–3,200 m (Talgar Pass). Most rentals sit at the gondola base and along the Medeu road — Saturday mornings mean queues. Booking online locks size and pack tier ahead of time.

Shymbulak
Shymbulak sits in the Medeu gorge (Zailiysky Alatau / Ile-Alatau), ~25–30 km from central Almaty and ~35–40 km from ALA airport. Reach Medeu rink in 30–40 minutes by car, taxi or bus, then the Medeu–Shymbulak gondola climbs to the resort base (~2,260 m). Expect ~20 km of marked runs (roughly 4 km green, 10 km blue/red, 6 km black), about 9 lifts and ~900 m vertical. Season typically mid-November to mid-April; best snow January–February. Night skiing runs on selected evenings.

Local tip
book online the day before Saturday and use Early Pick Up from 17:00 — you keep the morning for skiing. With kids, take the Kids pack with helmet and filter Kid friendly shops. At the shop pay by card, Kaspi or cash in tenge.
